There is a lot of stress when it comes to moving. It doesn't matter if you're moving out of state or locally because you still need to pack up your belongings and haul them from one place to the next. This can be an exhausting and unnerving task if you're not prepared for it.

As you get closer to moving day, you will have so many things on your mind. It is better to prepare a to-do list ahead of time because it will keep you organized and ease your worries.

Below are 5 easy-to-do tips that will make your moving experience less painful and much faster.

1) Do Not Procrastinate

Many of us like to wait until the last minute to get things done. This will only make your life more stressful when you must do a lot of work within a short amount of time. Therefore, you need to start planning your move now and then complete each step as soon as possible. Create a detailed calendar which outlines the tasks you will complete each day leading up to the actual moving day.

Think about which tasks are going to give you the most stress. Perhaps you need more assistance or time to do these tasks. If you really need other people to help you, talk to your friends and family first. If you still need more help, schedule time for vendors to assist you in the future.

2) Throw Away Useless Items

You don't need to move all the items in your house. Just think, do you really need them all? If you can throw away items that you don't need anymore, then you'll have fewer items to pack up and move.

Visit each room in your home and then look at each item in them. When you come across an item, ask yourself this question: Do I really need this item? Is it worth the hassle of moving it to my new home?

3) Get Moving Supplies

You must have high-quality packing and moving supplies to organize your move properly. Get some strong boxes in a variety of different sizes. You can purchase these boxes from a shipping company if you want them new. Otherwise, you can get free used boxes from dumpsters, friends, Craigslist, and, any local store that is willing to part with them. Try to get more boxes than you think you need. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Other moving supplies you will need include bubble wrap, big garbage bags, newspaper, adhesive labels, permanent black markers, furniture covers, scissors, vacuum storage bags, and box tape.

4) Get Assistance

Don't think you can move everything yourself. Take the stress off your shoulders by getting other people to help you out. If you're moving with someone else, such as a roommate, romantic partner, friend, or family member, you can split the moving tasks between yourselves.

Create a plan for the moving day and list all the tasks that will need to be done. Write down how long it will take to do each task. Then you can arrange a time for whoever is helping you to be there. You might want to prepare meals, snacks, and drinks for your helpers to show your appreciation.

If you're going to hire professional movers, you need to compare the different choices out there. Review all their policies and prices to ensure you choose the right one for you. Most importantly, it needs to be a reputable moving company that has a lot of positive reviews from other customers.

5) Organization

You need to be more organized in the way you pack your items. Don't just toss items into random boxes that have no labels. Otherwise, you'll be spending a long time finding these items after you move because you won't know which boxes that they are in.

Take some time to separate your possessions into their own categorized boxes. Specify the category on the label of the box. You might even want to write a description of what is in the box too and the quantity of those items. If you want to get even more creative, you can place colored stickers on the boxes and assign a specific category to each color. This will create a visual cue that will help you think faster when you see the color on the box. Then you can immediately know which box has the appropriate items. You will save a lot of time this way.

Finally, take a small bag and fill it with items that you will need immediately after you move into your new home. These could be things like personal documents, clothes, toothbrushes, toilet paper, shoes, towels, and any other necessities that are important. That way, you won't need to frantically search through all the boxes trying to find these little items.
